Student has closing thoughts on election implications

Student has closing thoughts on election implications
So, it's over. What's been called potentially the most exciting and important presidential election of our lifetime has come to a close. Its not like it flew by though. Some say that it was the longest presidential race in U.S. history (Joe Biden announced he would seek the Democratic nomination in March 2006), and definitely the most expensive with an estimated $5.… Post the First Comment

Weighing in on injustices that plague third-party politics

Weighing in on injustices that plague third-party politics
True or false? Our government is "a form of government in which the supreme power is retained and directly exercised by the people." This is Webster's definition of "democracy," and when one thinks of democracy the first country that comes to mind is the United States.… Post the First Comment

Who do you love: are you sure?

Who do you love: are you sure?
This week I was pondering on what topic to write on when my section editor tells me to write what I feel, and a perfect topic came to mind…relationships. Settling. No, grown-ups; not like the foundation settling, I am speaking more on the existential end of the issue.… Post the First Comment

One Small Voice

One Small Voice

I think, now what

I think, now what
Cogito ergo sum, (I think, therefore I am) is the first conclusion that Descartes came to after careful and extensive deliberation on what it is that he (or anyone else, for that matter) could really "know." I noticed, however, that Ludwig Wittgenstein's "Philosophical Investigations" suggests that the finiteness of human language limits people's ability to convey relevant thoughts in other than internal discourse.… Post the First Comment

Rethinking God as perfect being

Rethinking God as perfect being
Traditionally, the concept of God is that of an eternal, perfect being, who serves as an unmoved mover, and preserving cause for the universe. However, I am not convinced that this Sunday school version of God is right. Could not an eternal, but imperfect being be the cause and overseer of the universe? If that were the case, would it not answer many of the questions about why things are the way they are? For me, there are too many problems with the idea of an absolute perfect God in every way.… Post the First Comment

News from New Zealand:

Valerie Hewell from abroad
Returning from a two-week holiday back to the rainy Massey University campus of Palmerston North was a bit depressing, especially considering all I had to look forward to was the large workload I'd accumulated. Heaps of assignments and test preparations I feared were going to prioritize most of my time the second half of the semester.… Post the First Comment
