Every year, TLU hosts the annual Bulldog 5k run on campus. This year's run was held on Oct. 31 at 5 p.m. where almost 100 people participated in the race. The Bulldog 5k brings together people, not only of the TLU community, but also residents of Seguin and people outside of the city.

Everyone participates in this run for lots of different reasons, some just enjoy the exercise, some are required to run it and some choose to participate because they have never participated in anything like it before.

"The entire women's basketball team ran this year as a chance to have some team bonding as it's a fun easy way to stay involved with the TLU community," Brittany Burton, sophomore kinesiology major, said.

Coach Long, head coach of the women's basketball team, required the whole team to participate in this year's Bulldog 5k, not only to stay in shape, but to give the ladies a chance to get involved with the community in and out. All 18 members of the women's basketball team participated in the run and dressed in Halloween costumes in support of the holiday.

"It's a chance for me to stay active and an excuse to spend time with friends outside and just enjoy ourselves," Burton said.

The run gives everyone a chance to have fun outdoors and interact with those around them.

"As a school, it helps us to raise money and it helps us to come closer together," Jocelyn Langford, freshman kinesiology major, said.

Among the 18 members of the team, Langford also participated in the Bulldog 5k on Friday.

"It brings us together and it's something that we can accomplish and do together," Langford said.

"I believe it benefits both [the TLU and Seguin community] because you can meet new people as running is a wonderful way to keep a healthy stress less life," Ravin McCallum, sophomore kinesiology major, said.

"I participated last year with my dad and it was a blast. My favorite part is just spending time with friends and family," Burton said.

Every participant in the Bull dog 5k, although running it for their own specific reasons benefits in one way or another. Some have participated in this event every year since the first time they ran it, and plan on continuing the tradition for many years to come.
